Earlier in November, it caused surprise that the Russian Yandex taxi service app Yango required access to the user's SIM card details, text messages and photos. HS investigated the matter further and it was revealed that other taxi apps also do not settle for just location data – which is, of course, a perfectly valid requirement for using a taxi app – but also, for example, the right to access the user's calendar.
Uber is the company most keen to interfere with user privacy, with its app, among other things, wanting to read and edit user contacts and calendar entries, as well as create new user accounts on the device with passwords.
